WEEKLY PICKS / ISSUE 2026-W44

10 AI-assisted Steam games with decisions worth your attention

A shared pit box, a persistent street plan, a cave ceiling and seven more decisions that give these games a shape.

A game can turn a small decision into the reason to return. A queue decides what an idle adventurer does while you are away. A road outlives the age in which you built it. Helping a crewmate leaves a ship station uncovered. These ten games approach that problem in different ways, across released games, demos and projects still in development. Each also has documented substantial AI assistance in production, with the human role kept visible. Choose a kind of decision that interests you. The order follows the decision each game asks you to make.

Availability and AI disclosures checked 2026-10-26. Five have Steam demos; two are paid releases; Cardboard Conquest has a separate free itch.io playtest. Formula Cat and Survive in Spaceshit have no verified public Steam demo.

01
Choose what repeated use will master.

Fire Field

Robe of Fire · Paid Windows Early Access

Choosing a weapon in Fire Field is also choosing what your character will practise. Weapon use and blocking develop their own masteries, giving the next dungeon descent a purpose beyond replacing yesterday’s loot. Visible equipment and an accompanying ally reinforce that sense of a growing adventurer. This is a paid Windows Early Access game; online co-op remains a plan. Its creator credits Claude Code with the custom engine and map editor, while describing most content as AI-assisted and personally reviewed. Consider it for an old-school dungeon crawl where how you fight helps shape what you become.

02
Plan the queue that works between sessions.

Grim Reach Idle

Heartforge Studios · Released · paid Windows game

Official Steam screenshot / Grim Reach Idle / Heartforge Studios

Grim Reach Idle makes the queue your main piece of equipment. Gathering, crafting and combat can form one plan, so the interesting choice is what your next absence should accomplish. Preparing materials for a useful item competes with pushing into a harder fight; automatic combat still needs a suitable loadout. The paid Windows release is available now. Steam discloses generated item, equipment and creature artwork, while the creator separately reports extensive AI-generated implementation and Claude-assisted fixes under human direction. This is a useful prospect for players who enjoy arranging dependencies, then returning to see what their preparation produced.

03
Choose both the card and where the army appears.

Cardboard Conquest

Paul Booth / PB&Games · Steam upcoming · free itch.io playtest

A useful card in Cardboard Conquest still needs a useful place to land. Your hand deploys troops, spells and other pieces onto a shared battlefield, turning a deckbuilding choice into a question about formations and exposed approaches. Drafted packs shape the options you will have during a run. A free, changing itch.io playtest is available; the Steam edition is planned for March 2027. Paul Booth discloses generated painted illustrations and music, selected and edited before shipping. Look here if you want the preparation of a card game to become an army you can arrange and then watch clash.

04
Lay the roads that later eras must inherit.

Pixel Metropolis

Shamaan · Upcoming · free Steam demo · full release planned December 2027

Official pre-release game screenshot / Pixel Metropolis / Shamaan

Pixel Metropolis asks you to shape the conditions for a town rather than place every home yourself. Roads, water and work encourage residents to build, and the settlement keeps its earlier layout as another age arrives. That makes a small planning decision worth revisiting: preserve a familiar route, or make room for what comes next? The free demo covers three early ages; the full game remains upcoming. Shamaan credits AI with most visual and sound assets, alongside a separately documented Codex coding workflow under human direction. Follow it for patient city building where development leaves a visible history.

05
Time a battery stop around a shared pit box.

Formula Cat

nitzan.games LLC · Upcoming · single-player · no demo verified

Official in-development Steam screenshot / Formula Cat / nitzan.games LLC

The battery stop is the reason to look past Formula Cat’s racing vacuums. Longer races require a swap, but your teammate shares the pit box: arriving together can turn a necessary stop into lost time. That gives the joke vehicle a familiar motorsport problem. This upcoming single-player game also offers a rookie story and repeat championships; there is no verified Steam demo. nitzan.games credits extensive AI coding of gameplay and procedural visuals, plus prepared audio and assistance with dialogue, under human direction and review. Keep an eye on it if timing a stop sounds as interesting as taking the next corner.

06
Decide who can leave a ship station to help.

Survive in Spaceshit - THE REVERSAL

Generu · Upcoming · no public Steam demo offered

A teammate needs carrying to the med bay, but leaving your station gives the ship one fewer pair of hands. That competing demand is the hook in Survive in Spaceshit — THE REVERSAL: split timed jobs, answer alarms and decide when helping matters more than finishing your own task. The announced game supports two to six online crewmates, with a separate solo difficulty. It remains upcoming, and no public demo is offered on its Steam page. Generu attributes the concept, mechanics, stations and balance to human design, with Claude writing the implementation. Follow its development if crew coordination is your kind of pressure.

07
Trace a wrong pixel back to the circuit cycle that drew it.

Hello Triangle: Build a GPU

Iced Latte Studio / icedlatte0x80 · Upcoming · free Steam demo

A wrong pixel is useful information in Hello Triangle. Wire arithmetic components into a circuit, run it against a target image, then select a faulty pixel to return to the clock cycle that drew it. The attraction is a visible trail from result to cause: changing the hardware changes the picture. A free Steam demo is available; Steam Early Access is planned for Q1 2027. The creator discloses AI assistance across code, graphics, sound and text on itch.io, while Steam specifically credits art and music. The pixels produced by your circuit are calculated by its simulator.

08
Spend shared fuel on movement, defence or position.

DeltaV Orbital Strategy

Vazkor · Upcoming · free guided Steam demo

Moving one ship can leave another short of fuel in DeltaV Orbital Strategy. Transfers, missile defence and holding contested orbits all spend the fleet's shared delta-v reserve; tritium access determines whether you can keep operating. Route previews add a timing problem because planets keep moving. Try the free guided demo for an introduction to that economy; the unreleased full game remains single-player, with multiplayer only a stretch goal. Vazkor credits Codex with original code, visuals, writing and localization, directed, tested and reviewed by the human creator. The soundtrack is licensed separately, and no generative AI runs during play.

09
Weigh the ore against the danger of the ceiling.

Mithril

Agentic Games · Upcoming · solo Windows demo

Mithril pre-release game screenshot: a narrow cave tunnel reinforced with metal support struts, with large mushrooms beside the passage.
Agentic Games · pre-release press-kit screenshot.

An ore seam is also a structural decision in Mithril. Extracting rock changes the weight carried by what remains, so supporting a useful route matters as much as finding it. Processing machines add another reason to preserve that underground workspace. The free Windows demo is solo; co-op and the advertised creature-free mode are announced for the full game. Steam currently lists 8 December 2026 for the full game. Agentic Games discloses AI-generated models, textures, music and effects edited by hand. World generation uses hand-written algorithms; animation and game-system design are not AI-generated. This is a cave to understand before hollowing it out.

10
Build a move deck around the opponent you expect.

Ultimate RPS Championship

CLQ Gaming · Upcoming free-to-play · free Steam demo

Ultimate RPS Championship: Rookie faces the Conductor, with three specialized move cards beside the duel
CLQ Gaming · official Steam promotional image.

Winning a hand can create the next problem in Ultimate RPS Championship. A Trickster can punish a successful choice by locking that hand out or changing its next effect; other styles chase aggression or information. Move cards turn rock-paper-scissors into a question about consequences, beyond which symbol wins. A free demo is available, while the full free-to-play game is planned for early November 2026 and ranked PvP remains marked as coming soon. CLQ Gaming discloses extensive AI use in code and visual assets, presenting the game as a personal creative experiment. It is an unusual prospect for players who enjoy reading an opponent.

Start with the mechanic.

For a decision you can watch and revise, start with the queues in Grim Reach Idle, the roads in Pixel Metropolis or a pixel in Hello Triangle. For competing shared resources, look at Formula Cat’s pit box, DeltaV’s fuel and the ship stations in Survive in Spaceshit. The access labels distinguish what you can try today from a development project to follow. For further discoveries, the AI Made Games Steam curator is free to follow.
