GAME DISCOVERY / CARD TACTICS
When winning a hand
can be a trap.
Ultimate RPS Championship puts specialized move cards behind the familiar three-way contest.

Rock beats scissors. Scissors beats paper. Paper beats rock. Ultimate RPS Championship keeps that starting point, then asks what happens when the hands themselves carry extra consequences. The announced design makes a familiar contest into a card-driven arcade fighting circuit.
The most interesting example is the Trickster. According to the developer, beating one of these fighters can leave your winning hand unavailable for several rounds, or change what happens when you next use it. A point on the scoreboard can therefore come with a cost. That is a sharper hook than simply adding more hand shapes to the triangle.
Three styles, different pressures
The store describes Bruisers as aggressive opponents who try to overwhelm you quickly. Tricksters complicate the reward for winning. Tacticians pursue ties to gather information about your cards and cooldowns, and can switch cards during a fight. Matches are first to four points.
What catches my attention is the change in the question: choosing a hand is also choosing which consequence to accept.
The campaign adds a longer arc. Start at the bottom of the fighting circuit, earn money from fights, buy cards and build toward the championship. The store also describes cosmetic fighter customization, from rings and watches to tattoos. It gives the fighting circuit a suitably theatrical frame around those card decisions.
