The interesting decision in CODEX MORTIS happens before the horde arrives. You assemble a deck of spells, then take it into an isometric survivor battlefield. A summoning-heavy deck surrounds the necromancer with allies; blood magic trades life for damage. Rewards earned during runs expand the spell collection for later loadouts.

The full release arrived on 24 September 2026. Its store page describes ten magic schools, fourteen levels and online parties of up to four players, alongside local co-op. These are the released product’s advertised features. Old demo coverage describes a smaller game and should not be used as its current specification.

Its development disclosure is unusually broad: the developer says AI was used for all game code, text, art, sound and music. That makes it a much closer match to extensive AI production than a game using a model only for localization. The marketing percentage still needs context: it does not measure away human decisions.

In a developer-marked Steam explanation, the creator describes replacing an early architecture with an entity-component-system structure, then directing AI within those constraints. He credits human choices for the central systems and themes, and says human testers carried out most validation. The production story is about how a person shaped model output into a game, not a game appearing without direction.

The continuing patch notes also matter to a prospective player. October updates revisit progression and restore some rewards; a newer hotfix addresses freezes in long sessions. That is a reason to inspect the latest update notes and player feedback before buying, rather than treating either launch controversy or an AI-production label as a verdict on today’s build.

THE PRODUCTION, SPECIFICALLY

Where AI fits

AI-assisted work
The developer declares AI use for the entire game code, text, art, sound and music.
Human contribution
The developer describes human architecture and design decisions, plus human testing and feedback. Broad AI production is not the absence of a creator.

No percentage of AI authorship has been independently established.
