FREE GAMES / TWO DIFFERENT STARTING POINTS
Two free Steam games.
Two very different moods.
Build something between runs, or follow a voice into a broken world. Both use substantial AI assistance in development and offer free base games on Steam.
If you’re curious about games made with substantial AI assistance, a free base game is a straightforward place to begin. These two are already available on Steam. They offer different reasons to try them, with different limits.
Choose by the experience you want
| Game | The attraction | Know before starting |
|---|---|---|
| Goliath Rogue | Survivors-style combat with persistent equipment and town upgrades | Free base game; Early Access date remains listed; optional paid supporter pack |
| The Residual | A short narrative platformer about memory and an unknown operator | Free; creator estimates 20–30 minutes; intentionally open-ended |
FOR ANOTHER RUN
Goliath Rogue
The hook is what survives a failed attempt. Goliath Rogue pairs a Survivors-style battlefield with equipment to collect and craft, villagers, a town to develop and talent and stat trees. If you enjoy returning from a run with something to build on, that is the promise to investigate.

The AI contribution: the developer reports AI-assisted code and translations, plus generated 2D art, music and sound effects, with some art retouched by hand. These ship as fixed assets; the disclosure says nothing is generated during play.
The limit: the store retains an Early Access release date. Treat this as an available developing game, without assuming a finished 1.0. Its base game is free; a separate supporter pack is paid.
FOR A SHORT, STRANGE DETOUR
The Residual
An unknown operator offers a way out of a fragmented world. Your character has lost their memory; sparse messages and the environment supply clues as the platforming continues. I’m interested in the friction between an instruction to follow the path and a reason to doubt whoever is speaking.

The AI contribution: the developer identifies programming assistance and AI creation of most visual assets. The player-character artwork is explicitly credited as made without generative AI.
The limit: the creator estimates a 20–30-minute experience and describes it as deliberately unresolved. Choose it for a brief atmospheric story, with that open ending in mind.
Free to start doesn’t mean the same thing everywhere
“Free” here refers to the base-game Play Game offer visible on each linked Steam page at the check date. It is not a promise of offline play, future pricing, or Steam Deck support. Both pages list Windows requirements. Check those before downloading.
If a short sample is what you want instead, use the demo finder. For a wider mix of available free and paid games, see the substantial AI-development shelf on Steam.
